My top summer picks from Decjuba
It’s heating up in Oz and even though I was getting sick of the cold I am already not looking forward to sweating my ass off while trying to maintain a modest image. Why can’t it just stay Spring or Autumn all year? What a dream would that be..
I received a newsletter from Decjuba and the subject line read “THE SUMMER EDIT” – I didn’t wait any longer and checked it out. I couldn’t believe how many awesome stuff were up for grabs to help with braving the heat so I wanted to share my favourites. I might have to add some of these into my closest for when I go to Darwin. The heat in Canberra does not compare to the heat back home. #HUMIDITYISABITCH
So, without further ado shop my favourite summer picks from Decjuba…
This gorgeous Montpellier high neck dress would be great to wear when I hit up the Parap Markets on a Saturday morning for brunch. I can’t wait to get myself some Laksa soup from my favourite Asian stall as well as a refreshing juice, this dress makes for a great market outing.
A perfect basic khaki tee for the hot summer with it’s cool linen fabrication. You can’t go wrong with a simple tee, pair it with your favourite pair of denim’s whether it be a skirt, shorts or jeans. Obviously for me, it will be a pair of good jeans or perhaps a skirt. This top makes for a perfect essential during summer.
These distressed jeans are everything and would look great with the khaki Asha Linen Tee as shown above. The ripped detailing is perfectly modest and I love the frayed ankle finish. Although it’s no high rise, I can’t help but want a pair nevertheless.
I use to wear sandals all the time before I moved to Canberra but now all I ever wear these days are boots and sneakers. I will still be bringing my Stan Smiths with me to Darwin but for those days where I cannot bare the humidity I should have a pair of black sandals to save the day. Plus, these will look great with the Montpellier dress as mentioned earlier.
How cute is this off-the-shoulder frill dress? It’s a super soft chambray denim which calls for a perfect outfit for a nice dinner with the girls. Not modest for a hijabi? No problem. Just wear a pair of denims, I think white will go nicely with these and a long sleeve top underneath to cover your shoulders.
I am very excited that this Lightweight Cape Jacket is in fact, lightweight. Meaning, you can wear it during summer without breaking a sweat. Hallelujah! Ok, that’s probably a lie. You may still sweat, it is Darwin after all. A cape is a great statement piece and is perfect to make a simple look appropriate for a nice dinner at Seafood on Cullen or even Viva La Vida for some delicious tapas to share with your gang.
It’s a double threat… A Off Shoulder and Bell Sleeve in one dress which screams bohemian. I’m not a huge fan on items that have visible elastic hems but this luxe dress needs to come with me to Darwin, fo’ sho’! I love the unstructured oversize fit providing plenty of room to pig out on Fish & Chips at the jetty. Love, love, loveeeeeee!
I have one slightly similar to this but I’m actually thinking about selling it as it’s way too tight so I never reach for it. What can I say about these jeans? I love jeans and they go with just about everything!
This effortlessly chic shirt will go hand in hand with the Frankie Distressed Jeans. Just by looking at the image, I can already tell it has a lightweight fabrication which is key for summer. The pocket detailing is super cute too with it’s collared neckline.
Gorgeous and effortless stud earrings to provide that extra chicness to any look.
This flirting lace top is great for day and night. I love that it is a relaxed fit throughout the body providing plenty of room to move around. Balance it out with skinny jeans and flats for day time or stilettos for night time.
I would prefer this 70’s vibe tie front blouse in black but the gold colour is actually on sale and well… Sale item’s always wins! I feel like you can truly see it’s elongated flared sleeves better in the gold and plus, it’s summer! Go bright, all go home.
Someone once told me that stripes were so last season… I disagree! I don’t know what it is but stripes could never get old and this one screams instant cool. I love the structure of this knot tee and it’s rounded neckline with capped sleeves. Pair this knotted tee with the black Frankie jeans or the distressed cigarette jeans. Either way, it will have you looking chic and relaxed for summer.
Feeling lazy and just want to throw something on while still looking on fleek? Try this simple everyday design. The front v-neckline and eyelet crossover detail gives it a simple aesthetic and would look great with a pair of shorts and thongs. You can even throw it over your bikini while you are at the Wavepool or beach.
If you thought I wasn’t going to suggest having a pair of white sneakers then you must not know me at all :P. This faux leather sneakers will go with just about anything. I’d even wear it with the Montpellier dress.
If you don’t know by now but I have been loving the dainty kind of jewellery. One’s that scream chic yet simple with a whole lot of style. These one’s are probably my most favourite out of the three. These large hoop earrings will go with just about everything, even if you are just wearing a basic tee, shorts and sneakers. It will further compliment your look, giving it a feminine touch to a n already normcore look.
How divine are these chic dainty Starlight Dangle Earrings? They remind me of something that Selena would wear and ya’ll know I love anything relating to Selena. I think these gorgeous statement earrings will look great with any of the off-the-shoulder pieces mentioned above. I’d even wear it with a pair of jeans and simple tee to revamp a simple casual look and make it something a little more special.
It turns out that if I wanted to buy this entire list I’d have to fork out at least $1000. Even if I were to purchase a couple of items it will still cost me a good $500 for only four or five items. Don’t forget, I still need some beauty and skincare products to take with me to Darwin too.
Therefore, I have decided that I am going to attempt to hunt for cheaper alternatives so I can take more items with me to Darwin and have plenty of options to wear while I’m there. I might even wait until some of the items from Decjuba go on sale and purchase them at a later date. I do agree on the phrase “spend more, buy less” but I do actually need some new clothes as I did a huge spring clean a couple of months ago.
Now that I shared my favourite items for Summer I thought I would give you some advise on how to shop for summer pieces. Fabrication is everything so in order to stay cool during summer you need to be strategic with what you add in your shopping cart. Although I love my dark colours, lighter colours are best suited for summer as light colours will reflect the sun where as dark colours we attract the sun. And that will only make you feel hotter!
To conclude today’s post, here is a brief run down on what pieces you need to add to your wardrobe this summer.
- Off-the-shoulder dress’ and/or tops
- Bell sleeves
- Haviana’s (for my non Australian readers these are sandals but we call it “thongs”)
- White sneakers
- Strappy sandals
- Shorts (for Non-Muslims)
- Basket Fedora hat
- Dainty Accessories
- Anything blush or dusty pinks is really popular this season
- Light colours are the way to go for this season
- Slip dress
- Jeans with flared details
- Mules are here to stay
- Aviators are making a comeback
Since I will be looking for cheaper alternatives, I may as well share them on Grace & Coy if you too are on a budget. Watch this space.
